Different groups and Shivpremis in Mormugao taluka will unite and celebrate Shivjayanti in Vasco in a grand manner on February 19.
The government has also allocated funds of Rs 5 lakh to the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) to celebrate Shivjayanti in the port town.
MMC Chairperson Girish Borker stated this while addressing a joint press conference on Friday afternoon in the presence of members from other groups.
"As MMC chairperson, I will head the Mormugao Taluka Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Ustav Samiti. We will have a grand celebration this year as for the first time. Around seven different groups from various parts of the taluka will unite under one banner to celebrate Shivjayanti on February 19,” said Borker.
The Murgao Hindu Samaj (MHS) has already installed a Shivaji statue in Chicalim and we will also involve them in our programmes. Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho, MLAs Krishna Salkar and Sankalp Amonkar will be chief guests for our programme.”
“MHS President Narayan Bandekar and minister Mauvin Godinho will perform Abhishek at 9 am at the Shivaji Statue in the presence of MLAs Krishna Salkar and Sankalp Amonkar. We will be joined by around 600 students of Keshav Smruti School. The students, parents and teachers of Keshav Smruti school will then participate in a huge rally from Kadamba Bus stand to Vasco.”
Borker said there would be huge rallies from Sada, Chicalim and Mangor at around 3 pm who will meet near St Andrew’s church.
“The combined rally will then move through Swatantra Path towards the MMC building. We will have different programmes like the Pawada which has been arranged from Kolhapur and we will also have an eminent speaker who will speak on the life of Shivaji Maharaj on that day,” Borker added.
