Two village panchayats in Goa -- Usgao and Shiroda have been declared tuberculosis-free.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Monday announced that under the ‘TB Mukt Panchayat’ initiative, Usgao and Shiroda village panchayats became the first in Goa to be TB free. He said that the collective approach is a part of the State’s larger goal to eliminate TB, as the Centre has set a 2025 deadline for the same.
“Under ‘TB Mukt Panchayat’ initiative, we empower Panchayats to take proactive measures. In Goa, we provide free diagnostic tests, treatment services, and nutritional support to TB patients,” he said while adding that several patients have benefited from Direct Benefit Transfers under the Nikshay Poshan Yojana and nutritional kits have been distributed by Nikshay Mitras.
Rane said that through innovation and community engagement, Goa is making remarkable strides in its goal to become TB-free. “We are committed to this cause and remain determined to eliminate TB from Goa, one step closer with every effort,” he added.
