Goa is 5th among Indian states in financial fraud lien

PANAJI

The Cyber Crime Cell on Monday claimed that Goa ranks 5th in the country in terms of the percentage of the lien amount involved in total financial fraud reported last month.

With 30.46 per cent, Goa trails only Lakshadweep (35%), Sikkim, Jharkhand, and Daman & Diu & Dadra & Nagar Haveli while citing data from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

SP Rahul Gupta stated this improvement is the result of several strategic measures including increased personnel in the Cyber Crime Cell, training to about 800 Goa Police personnel in tackling cyber crimes, coordination with banks, follow up of all financial frauds reported, orientation programmes for Police Inspectors, etc.

“For streamlining the release of this lien money, an integrated Standard Operating Procedure is being developed by I4C by including all stakeholders’ roles in this process. Goa Police is also collaborating with the Directorate of Education to train school computer teachers, who will educate students about cyber safety.

"Letters have also been sent to all colleges, requesting the assignment of student volunteers to assist the Cyber Crime Cell in raising awareness. A special session is planned to engage all Sarpanchas in this effort,” he said.
