Vasco MLA asks people to pay dues, which are needed to clear salaries

VASCO

Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar on Wednesday met the municipal workers who complained that salaries were not paid and appealed to people to clear their dues, which are needed to clear the salaries of staff.

"MMC employees are not getting salaries on time and this is because the MMC is not getting its revenue and the recovery is not strong. The MMC does not have enough staff and they cannot go every single day taking up recoveries and they take up drives for a few days with the resources available with them,” said Salkar.

“I appeal to people to pay their license fees, house tax and clear their dues, to help MMC provide better service to people.”

“We have now given two self-sustaining projects to MMC, which includes the Chief Officer’s Bungalow and we have begun discussion with the HPCL on the one-time settlement scheme to recover the Rs 15 crore odd dues, but we are only waiting for an appointment with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.”

“We are also taking up the Baina Power House project which will generate revenue to the MMC and I request the Councillors to take up recoveries ward wise," said Salkar.

The Vasco MLA said the MMC has now begun using its power and started to seal shops after sending notices.

“The MMC will start taking action on those not paying their dues and people must come forward to clear their dues before MMC initiates action. The MMC used to get octroi but that has now gone to the State government and this has led to the major financial crunch to the MMC that causes delay in salaries to staff," said Salkar.
