Margao Municipal Council has finally got a full-fledged Chief Officer to head the municipal administration.
Newly posted grade I officer Melvyn Vaz has assumed office as the new Chief Officer of the municipal council. He succeeds Ajit Panchwadkar who was holding additional charge of the council after the sudden transfer of then Chief Officer Gaurish Sankhwalkar.
Vaz made his presence felt in the municipal building to take charge of the office. Vaz is not new to the Margao Municipal Council having presided over the municipal administration for a year in 2006.
Sources, however, said the newly appointed Chief Officer has a task at hand to recover outstanding tax arrears pegged at over Rs 30 crore. He also faces a challenge in streamlining the administration.
