Members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Bajrang Dal on Tuesday met the Mormugao deputy collector and submitted a complaint regarding an encroachment on government land near Ravindra Bhavan at Baina.
The deputy collector is reported to have assured the delegation that strict action would be taken on any encroachment on government land.
Speaking to reporters, VHP Matha Mandir President Shyamsundar Nayak said the structure on government land appeared to be a religious structure.
“This structure has been constructed with mala fide intentions to hurt the sentiments of other religious communities. The same structure was earlier demolished by authorities on many occasions, but it has been constructed again. We have asked authorities to clear it before it can hurt religious sentiments and lead to a law and order situation," said Nayak.
"The site where the structure has been rebuilt is a public road and is obstructing to commuters. There have been clear guidelines lines by the High Court that such structures must not be allowed and immediately demolished by local authorities. We have strongly objected to this structure and have demanded immediate action from the dy collector," said Nayak.
Besides Nayak, others in the delegation included Parshuram Shetye, Pritam Naik, Suresh Naik, Vishnu Kerkar, Kunal Dhargalkar, Pradeep Jadhav, Sagar Singh, Ravinder Singh and Advesh Usgaonkar.
