MARGAO
Extending his condolences to the family of Electricity Department lineman Mahesh Zambaulikar, who lost his life due to electrocution on Friday, Congress South Goa candidate Capt Viriato Fernandes demanded the resignation of Power Minister Ramkrishna Dhavalikar immediately.
“Dhavalikar has no right to continue as Power Minister of Goa. He has failed to provide safety and security to his own department staff. I condemn his act of negligence," said Capt Viriato.
He added: “The government has spent almost Rs 12,000 core on maintenance and improvisation of the power distribution system in Goa in the last 5 years. But the amount has gone into the coffers of the Power Minister and BJP functionaries. Hence Goans are continuously facing power disruptions."
Alleging that the power department has become a big scam, the Congress leader said there are pending recoveries of Rs 1,400 crores from industrial, commercial and government defaulters, but the government is targetting poor domestic consumers.
Viriato said the people of South Goa will reject the pro-rich and anti-poor BJP government on May 7 when they go and vote to 'save democracy and save Goa'.
