MARGAO
South Goa MP Viriato Fernandes has lamented that the government has proposed jetties along the river Sal course without taking the local people and the panchayat bodies into confidence.
He said this only goes to show that the Constitutional 73rd and 74th Amendments have not been implemented in the state of Goa in both letter and spirit.
Promising to take up the issue of jetties construction as well as the failure to implement the 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendments in the state of Goa, Viriato told the media that he would raise these in the coming session of Parliament.
“There are 27 disciplines allotted to the panchayat bodies as per the Amendments, but in reality the Panchayats are denied the powers and functions. This is clearly in violation of the Supreme Court’s ruling”, he added.
