MAPUSA
Stung by the new reservation plan, Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza on Wednesday hinted that he would ensure a senior councillor, preferably of chairperson material, is given an opportunity in the BJP panel.
“All senior persons are out of reckoning due to the fresh reservation of the wards, so we will have to scout for fresh faces. But I cannot go only with new faces. We will have to have some seniors,” D’Souza said.
The fresh notification for reservation of wards has put the ruling party’s panel on the back foot, with almost all former senior councillors unable to contest from their wards.
The Mapusa MLA informed that he has had a preliminary discussion with the candidates and senior party men to find a way out.
“It is too soon to come to a conclusion. But one thing is sure that at least one senior person will have to contest from one of the general wards and that person will be of chairperson material,” he said.
