A woman from Kapileshwari-Ponda was assaulted and injured after she allegedly refused a lift offered by a man from the same village.
According to the victim's mother, the incident took place at about 3 pm when the victim was waiting for a bus at the Kapileshwari bus stop to go to work.
"A person from our village offered her a lift, but she refused and instead, called her brother to pick her up. Following this refusal, the man grabbed my daughter by her neck and pushed her to the ground," the mother said.
The victim is reported to have sustained injuries in the process.
The mother said that the man's parents later visited them and sought a compromise by asked them to withdraw the complaint.
"We will not do that as I want justice for my girl. Tomorrow, this can happen to other girls as well," claimed that mother.
Ponda police said that the woman has been admitted to the Ponda sub-district hospital. Police have filed an FIR against the accused and are on the lookout for him, as investigations are in progress.
