GFP's Vijai, RGP's Viresh skip Opposition unity meet

PANAJI

In a development that did not go unnoticed, Vijai Sardesai and Viresh Borkar the lone MLAs of the Goa Forward Party (GFP) and Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) respectively, skipped the meeting of MLAs held on Saturday to explore common ground and forge Opposition unity.

The absence of Sardesai and Borkar in the meeting, however, was sought to be explained away with the claim that they were busy due to pre-scheduled work and couldn't make it.

Congress leaders Digambar Kamat and Michael Lobo, both claimed that the MLAs of GFP and RGP have been consulted and are on the same page on the decision taken in the Saturday meeting to field Aleixo Sequeira as a joint Opposition nominee for the Speaker's election.

While Borkar of RGP has given no clear indication of the political positioning he and his party will take in the House, GFP's Vijai Sardesai, who fought the Assembly polls in alliance with the Congress has sent out ambiguous signals on which side of the fence he will choose.

Sardesai, reports suggest, is in backhand talks with emissaries from the ruling coalition.
