Colvale police has booked a supervisor on charges of stealing Rs 10.02 lakh from the company locker in the Tivim Industrial Estate on Sunday night.
The accused, Bibek Kaldar (31) from West Bengal, had been working as supervisor since the past six months.
In his complaint, Somnath Karpe said the key to the locker had been with him and the suspect, Kaldar.
The company had a holiday on January 26 and 27, and had made arrangements for its employees to stay near the industrial area.
Karpe said the accused knew that there is a big amount in the locker, and as he had the keys, he went to the company on January 28, took the amount of Rs 10.02 lakh and absconded.
Karpe checked the locker on Monday on resuming work, and found that the amount in the locker was missing.
During inquiries, the accused was not found on duty, and his mobile was switched off. The workers went to his room to fetch him but he was missing in the room and his belongings were also not there.
Karpe then lodged a complaint with the Colvale police station, and the police booked an offence against the suspect under Section 408 IPC. Further investigations are in progress.
