Goa was ranked 18th amongst 21 States in the Logistics Ease Across Different States (LEADS) 2021 index, brought out by the Union Commerce and Industry Ministry.
The perception-based LEADS index ranks States and UTs on the efficiency of their logistics ecosystem. Gujarat topped with Haryana, Punjab, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra occupying the second, third, fourth and fifth positions
In 2019, Goa was ranked 21 even as it saw a jump of 3 places in 2021.
Goa also scored relatively low under the Availability and Quality of Infrastructure, especially road, rail, and terminal infrastructure.
According to the report, “State needs to improve its road connectivity infrastructure such as Kochi-Mangalore-Goa (NH-17) and stretch from Ramnagar to Anmod near Goa check post”.
Goa also got a low score in the indicators such as Reasonableness of Road Freight Rates and Prices of Terminal Services.
To mitigate the challenges faced by the logistics sector, the State has however taken proactive steps such as granting industry status to logistics sector.
Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said that aim of the report is to point out logistic problems in States so that it can be improved.
