Goa Medical College (GMC) has confirmed the identity of the 23 year old intern doctor found dead at Hawaii Beach, Dona Paula, on June 10 as Dr Gauri Narayan, a native of Kerala, who was just a couple of days away from completing her internship and leaving the institution. GMC's Medical Superintendent Dr Rajesh Patil on Thursday said, Dr Gauri Narayan's father, also a doctor, has already reached here.

He said, police are investigating the case and a substance reportedly recovered from the scene is part of their investigation.

Dr Patil declined to comment on the outcome of the post mortem report, except to say that the viscera and tissues have been preserved for further chemical and histopathology tests.

Had depression  since Class XII,  father to cops

The father of the 23-year-old intern doctor has reportedly informed Panaji police that his daughter was undergoing treatment for depression since Class XII.

Police, however, said the reasons behind her depression were not immediately known and that inquiries were continuing.

Police sources said that they have so far found no indication of foul play and are expected to treat the case as a suicide unless fresh evidence emerges.

As per initial information gathered by the police, she had called her mother at around 4.30 pm, conveying to her that she was not feeling well. Police believe it was her last known conversation before she was found dead at Hawaii beach.

A post-mortem examination was conducted at GMC. The body was later handed over to her father, who had travelled from Kerala and subsequently left for his native place to perform the final rites.

Police are awaiting the post-mortem findings and completion of other formalities before closing the investigation.
