Hydrate, hydrate and hydrate more is the singular advice several doctors are proffering to combat the severe heatwave conditions which Goa has been witnessing over the last several days.

The unusually hot weather conditions can make you feel sick with the risk of being afflicted with some serious diseases such as typhoid and gastric disorders is also high.

According to several doctors 'The Goan' spoke to, dehydration is one of the most commonly reported health problems in these heatwave conditions, which at times, could even lead to heart-related problems or even a heart attack.

'Heatstroke' is also another problem often caused by high exposure to direct sun and heat, causing problems like fatigue and weakness.

Unusually hot summers create conducive conditions for food poisoning leading to serious symptoms like vomiting and diarrhoea. Food decays faster and bacteria grow in it which is the main cause of food poisoning. It is therefore advised that only fresh food and fruits be consumed. Doctors are also advising against consuming street food.

Typhoid is another serious health scare during heatwave conditions with the risk highest among children, doctors warn with street food the single most frequent cause of cases. Symptoms of typhoid include fever, headache, vomiting, diarrhoea and fatigue.
