PSIs Tukaram Melekar and Suresh Padloskar are posted in PTSValpoi since 2006; both are the residents of Sattari. The two PSIs, enjoy thepatronage of Ranes and have never seen another posting.

Over 1,636 policepersonnel have not beentransferred for more than five years of which 400 odd have been in thesame post for over a decade. Besides constables and head constables, the listincludes 32 police officers. As per guidelines of the Supreme Court the policepersonnel should be transferred from the place of posting within 2 or 3 years to ensure a smoothfunctioning of the particular station. Sources said that the police stations that had the maximum number of“permanent postings” were Canacona, Collem and Cuncolim.

In somecases, officers avail of an informal “go out and come back policy” where they gettransferred for to other police stations for a couple of months and then return to the original stationwith the blessings of their political masters, thereby bypassing themandatory provision of transfer every two years.
