Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar assured food security to allthe people affected with the halting of mining activity in Goa which is likelyto impact more than three lakh people dependent on mining.
“Government will ensure that no one starves due to haltingof mining activity. We will make sure that there is enough for everyone’slivelihood,” Parrikar said while addressing 52nd Goa Liberation Day onWednesday at Campal.
Parrikar said that the current crisis in the mining industryis a matter of serious concern for the government. “Government is well awareabout the difficulties faced by the people from the mining belt. We areproviding financial help for those people impacted with the closure,” the chiefminister said.
The chief minister’s statement came a day after thousands ofpeople dependent on mining industry thronged Panjim city demanding immediateresumption of the activity. He said that government is working to createemployment opportunities in the mining sector. Parrikar said that government isin the favor of immediate resumption of legal mining, which is done taking intoconsideration the environmental aspect.
