Security has been tightened in Goa, with intensivepatrolling planned throughout the state, as it ushers in the ten-day longGanesh Chaturthi festivities from Wednesday.
Inspector General Police Sanjay Singh told reporters thatextensive patrolling has been launched throughout the state by forming severalteams and a total 625 policemen will man North Goa, while 502 will man SouthGoa, he said.
Special protection has been given to Ganeshotsav mandals,where crowds are expected for the next ten days. At several places, devoteeswill be screened through a metal detector to avoid possible carrying ofexplosives.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Umesh Gaonkar said that CCTVcameras have also been installed, while suspicious people will also be frisked.
