After the initial brouhaha, Goa Legislative Assembly’s HouseCommittee constituted to inquire into police-politico drug nexus, especiallythe involvement of Home Minister Ravi Naik and his son Roy in the drug tradebesides their nexus with the police, have requested Speaker Rajendra Arlekar toextend the time frame of the committee beyond a month, as the committee needsto sort out more documents.
“We are in process of sorting out more than 10,000 documentssubmitted to us by the home department which will take time. Hence we haverequested the Speaker to extend the time, at least by three months,” one of thehouse committee member informed.
He further said that the committee needs to scrutinize thedocuments minutely. “Once the verification is done only then we shall draw a conclusion.Till date we have not taken any documents on record. We have asked them toprovide us with multiple sets so that each of the committee members can studyand come with their findings,” he said.
The whole purpose of forming a house committee was toinvestigate the links of former chief minister’s son and police in the drugsnexus case. And as assured by CM Manohar Parrikar on the floor of House, if anyevidence was found a separate FIR would be registered.
When asked whether the House Committee had plans ofsummoning Roy Naik or former chief minister Ravi Naik, one of the member ofhouse committee said: “If required we would summon them. But summoning peoplewill be time consuming. The committee wants to submit the report as early aspossible. We are already in the process of sorting out information which willbe served as evidence.”
The House Committee member also said that summoning Lucky Farmhousewill be time consuming as she was a foreign national. “But there are other waysof reaching out to her or getting her statements which she had mailed. Shewould be a crucial person for us as she has spoken openly on drugs nexus case,”the member said.
“We are happy that people are cooperating and handing overevidence to us,” the committee member added.
