“If they areinspecting the mines than they should also take action. Just inspecting andkeeping quiet means asking for kickbacks,” Parrikar told reporters today. Hesaid that the MoEF should put on their website the entire findings of theinspection carried out of Goa mines. He blamed also MoEF for the current miningmess in the state.
“MOEF is the corrupt ministry. They have given EC byaccepting bribes. Why were they quiet all this year?” he questioned, addingthat the “MOEF never acted when illegal mining was rampant during the Digambar Kamat-ledgovernment’s rule in the state.
A team of MOEF officials have begun inspecting various minesin the state from Wednesday.
Parrikar said that agencies like the Indian Bureau of Minesand MoEF, which works under the central government should impose stringentregulations on the mines in Goa.
“The Goa government is just responsible for storage andtransportation of minerals,” Parrikar said.
Stating that the ECs were granted after receiving kickbacks,Parrikar said that even though in places like Sanguem, there is 80 per centtribe population, the Environment Impact Assessment by these agencies show thatthere are no tribes.
