The morning chill is on the wane, but political warmth isstill not a natural bedfellow for Goa’s Chief Minister. He faces an assemblyline of unresolved issues next week, which could spoil his one year in officebirthday party.
However, a five day session, is like a T20 match. It doesn’tneed patience and guile. But still, the pitch won’t be placid.
“This session is waytoo short but I will be very vocal about the crimes and rapes happening inGoa,” Mickky Pacheco said. “We got a bad name due to murders, rapes androbberies in the last two months. What’s worse this is happening during thetourist season,” the Nuvem MLA pointed.
Independent MLA, Vijai Sardesai has decided to raise issuesconcerning Fatorda and entire Goa. He has even requested Congress MLAVishwajeet Rane, Reginaldo Lourenco and Pandurang Madkaikar to share some ofhis questions, as he has exhausted his quota.
“I will go all out against the government if the Khazan billand Mopa issue comes up. This government needs to keep its word of upholdingMatanhy’s legacy vis-a-vis the Mopa airport,” an agitated Sardessai pointedout.
The Fatorda MLA has also decided to raise questions onFatorda, Ravindra Bhavan, GSUDA and PWD.
The quantum of questions, 750 in all, in the five daysession might be a large amount to handle for Speaker Rajendra Arlekar.“Technically, justice is done as all questions are answered. The Question Hourallows all MLAs to ask as many questions as possible. But then it ispractically not possible to discuss all these questions,” he says,
Former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat prefers to be lessvocal in this short session. “I personally feel this session is very short todiscuss anything. I have raised a few issues concerning Margao but nothinggeneral like the last time,” Kamat said.
In the last session the Margao MLA had raised issues ondivorce and annulments in the state, civil supplies details and other socialawareness issues.
Meanwhile, Congress’ only vocal MLA, Reginaldo Lourenco willstay firm on the khazan land issue and plans to oppose the Khazan LandDevelopment Board Bill tooth and nail.
“Curtorim is an agriculture driven constituency. The KhazanBill will affect us the most and could mean losing a lot of land to thebuilder’s lobby. While I will raise issues of crime and Mopa, my focus will beon anti-Khazan Land Development Board,” the Curtorim MLA said.
Congress MLA, Mauvin Godinho, whose name continuously propsup in the Dabolim denotification land scam said that he will act as aconstructive opposition.
“My voice in the Assembly is for Goa and Goans. I willobject anything that is anti-Goan on the floor of the House. I will not attackthe government but question the CM on his U-turns and failures,” a circumspectGodinho said.
The quality of questions worries the Speaker, who claimsthat no good debates and discussions come up, which can be incentive for thegovernment to think and take action. He states, “Legislators have to legislateand make laws. They should do their homework.”
