The Goan: What made you get involved in the drug politician-police-drugdeler nexus?
Kashinath Shetye: I thought that something should be done tocurb it.. Being a citizen of the country it was my duty to complain.
TG: Were you under pressure of any kind to withdraw yourstatement against the Roy Naik?
KS: The day we have filed the complaint they tried to bribeus and even threatened us. On the instruction of then home minister Ravi Naik,the then SP Mangaldas Desai, on his personal instruction, sent police inspectorSudesh Naik and Praveen Kumar Vast to convince me to withdraw the complaint orto delete Roy’s name.
TG: Who are the politicians, their kin or officers who youhave accused of being a part of the drug nexus?
KS: Ravi Naik called from his bodyguard’s phone to one ofthe petitioners, Pradeep Kakodkar, who is also a CA of Roy Naik to withdraw thecomplaint.
TG: You named a Mr Roy in your complaint. Who is this Roy?
KS: Roy Naik, Ravi Naik’s son has also tried to bribe me.Initially we were unaware of the name ‘Roy’ that we had named in the complaintwas Roy Naik. It is only when he tried to threaten and harass us to remove hisname that we confirmed that this Roy is no one else but former Home MinisterRavi Naik’s son Roy Naik.
TG: Ravi Naik has dared the CBI to conduct an enquiry toinvestigate Roy.
KS: The state government was forced to bring in the CBI byHigh Court and not due to the government’s own will. Any investigation willprove what we have complained.
