The investigation of the criminal-policenexus of corruption has hit a roadblock as Addl. Collector Narayan Navti hasasked to be relieved of his responsibility as the Inquiry Officer in theinterest of justice. In a two paged, refusal addressed to the Under Secretary(Home) Neetal Amonkar, Navti has cited his hectic schedule for his refusal totake up the case.
Is it a hectic schedule or justpolitical and police pressure to scuttle the probe that made Navti hurriedlyexcuse himself from heading the probe? The Goan’s investigations reveal thatNavti’s eloquent excuse of a hectic work load due him also being holding additionalcharge of Assistant Chief Electoral Officer is not convincing. Making EPICcards, revising electoral rolls are all ongoing processes and with the assemblyelections concluding just six months ago and parliamentary elections not duefor another year and a half, Navti does not have so many pressing engagements.
When The Goan quizzed Navti andrevealed that if other officers of his rank, including Addl. Collector 1 NorthGoa Amarsen Rane could hold additional charge of a magisterial probe ,whycouldn’t he? Navti retorted that it was beyond his capacity to do so much work.Is it a lack of capability or the fear of the unholy alliance that scared Navticould be anybody’s guess.
Perhaps then the eight yearcollation of evidence, highlighting a police- criminal relationship done byJowett could be used to nail the accused.
