The clamour for disqualification of BJP’s Aldona legislatorgot louder, when a second disqualification petition was filed against the MLA,Glen Ticlo.
Melwyn Fernandes, a local from Aldona filed the petitionbefore the governor on Friday.
This is the second petition against Ticlo’sdisqualification. On Thursday Congress spokesman Sudip Tamankar had filed apetition before the governor alleging that the MLA was holding dualcitizenship.
Both the petitions before the governor claim that Ticlo isholding Portuguese nationality.
The petitioners have produced documents in support of theirdemand stating that Ticlo had registered his birth once again in Portugal andhe was granted Portuguese citizenship on November 27, 2009.
The petitioners have prayed before the governor to directthe ministry of external affairs to obtain all relevant citizenship documentsof Ticlo, from the central civil registration office of the Portuguesegovernment, in order to verify the documents.
The petitioners have also requested the governor to suspendTiclo as a legislator under Article 191 (d) of the Constitution of India.
Ticlo is the second legislator who is facing adisqualification threat for holding dual citizenship.
A similar demand praying for Benaulim MLA Caitu Silva’sdisqualification is pending before the bench of Bombay High Court in Goa.
