The Supreme Court has ruled that all illegal constructions are serious and asserted there was no way these can be regularised. We have witnessed irregularities in Goa in these recent years. Even the construction coming up near St Cajetan Church at Old Goa is one glaring example of illegality in a heritage area. Builders and builders and landowners who connive with the authorities are setting a bad example and taking the state towards disaster.
Now, we are heading towards disaster with the government passing the Goa Bhumiputra Adhikarini bill recently in the assembly. The bill is awaiting assent from Governor R S Sreedharan Pillai. The bill, if passed, will allow encroachment by slum dwellers and give rise to other illegalities. Hop such a situation doesn’t arise.
