Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has recently claimed that the Hindutva icon Veer Savarkar had filed mercy petitions with the British during his incarceration in Andaman jail at the behest of Mahatma Gandhi.
According to books, Mahatma had returned to India in 1915 and had launched the first freedom movement only in 1917 whereas Savarkar had filed his first mercy petition in 1911 itself.
Now, how can Rajnath Singh make such a baseless allegation and claim that Savarkar had filed his mercy petitions at the behest of Mahatma when they both had no basic communication facilities like internet, facebook, whatsapp, instagram etc available during that time?
As per historical facts, it was leaders like Savarkar and Jinnah who were solely responsible for the partition of India as both were die-hard supporters of two-nation theory.
Pakistan as expectedly was finally founded based on Islamic religion but India somehow managed to remain a secular country due to the strong efforts/sacrifices of all our great thinkers/ freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Nehru, Sardar Vallabhai Patel, Babasaheb Ambedkar etc.
