The State roads have become most deadly in India. Before the assembly elections, the roads were patched up. After election once again the redigging started. It is common to see when election nears all such changes occur. Poor roads, lack of maintenance and repair, multiple agencies and no clear responsibilities coupled with administrative apathy contributed to pointless accidents. The case of minor children driving vehicles without license are rising in the state. This is due to the laziness and laxity of the law enforcement authorities. When it comes to design, engineering norms are often circumvented, leading to faulty roads that are accident-prone. The roads are built defying the norms set by the Indian Road Congress. Enforcement is a significant and effective way of preventing and reducing accidents, deaths and injuries. Best practice in enforcement of traffic violations should be adopted. Evaluate the enforcement on a regular basis. The traffic police must rise to the occasion and religiously discharge their duty and take action as per rules without any fear. Technological intervention aids in achieving road safety goals.
