Fix potholes on Atal Setu before monsoon

Three cars were reportedly involved in an accident on the Atal Setu on Sunday evening. It is understood that the accidents were caused due to potholes that are yet to be repaired.

The cable-stayed bridge that runs between Panaji and Porvorim is 5.1 kilometer long which makes it the third-longest cable-stayed bridge in the country.

Officially opened on February 5, 2019, the bridge is indeed the pride of Goa. Unfortunately craters have appeared every monsoon since the bridge was thrown open.

It is learnt that potholes occur due to non-bonding of bitumen and three layers of water-proofing put above the concretised surface.

The monsoon season is a few days away. The accident involving three cars on Atal Setu should be a wake-up call for the authorities to repair the roads on a war-footing in order to avoid any further accidents due to the pot-holes.
