Outgoing Lokayukta Justice (Retired) Misra minced nowords in highlighting the ills plaguing Goa in his interview with a localdaily. Goa must act and get the same corrected. Prosecution powers with theLokayukta must be part of the Act as in Kerala. Permanent investigators and notthe ones requisitioned from the police, must be provided. At the moment theinvestigator must at least be of inspector grade. Opposition parties seem to behesitant in taking up these matters. Are they safeguarding themselves? If AAPwants to be different, it should spearhead this. Imagine, a small landowner wasrobbed of his property by the collusion of a politician and the government. Theformer had no political clout. He must have been made to run from pillar topost with all offices, already empowered and required to help him, carelesslypushing him off. Even opposition politicians did not come forward. It seems weare all collectively spineless. That is why the Lokayukta Act must be givenmore teeth. The common man needs systems to safeguard themselves. Villagersmust form non-panchayat member groups to take up such matters. Just as theindigenous peoples of US, New Zealand etc had their lands taken away, it mayhappen in Goa too.
