PANAJI
Panaji could soon have yet another commercial block dotting its eastern outskirts on the lines of 'Patto Plaza' which is often touted as Goa's 'Nariman Point'.
Economic Development Corporation (EDC) which executed the Patto Plaza development since the 1980s, has plans to develop on similar lines around two-lakh square metres of land. It technically falls in the Merces Panchayat jurisdiction but hugs the capital city along its eastern border.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant examined the plans on Wednesday after top honchos of the EDC made a presentation of the blueprint.
Sawant, who spoke to the media later said, the nearly 50 acres of land will be like a twin city of sorts to Panaji. To elaborate, he drew a parallel and cited the Mumbai, Navi-Mumbai example.
"It will be a tourist attraction and a recreation area like those seen in foreign countries," Sawant said.
The chief minister also took a dig at civil society and NGOs saying they will raise their voices to oppose this project too.
“When the government speaks development, NGOs wake up. They will oppose this project too,” Sawant said.
