PANAJI: Konkan Railway Police intercepted an alleged drug racket at Thivim Railway Station and arrested two persons after recovering 38.935 kg of opium poppy straw worth around Rs 38.93 lakh.
In an official letter, police stated that a surprise narcotics raid was conducted at Thivim station late on August 27. Acting on credible information, the team intercepted Parveen Kumar, 23, from Rajasthan, who was travelling on the Kerala Sampark Kranti from Hazrat Nizamuddin, Delhi, to Kerala and allegedly found him carrying the contraband.
During interrogation, Kumar reportedly disclosed the name of his associate, Ashok Kumar, 27, also from Rajasthan and currently residing in Guirim, Mapusa. Police said both accused had been staying in Goa in rented accommodation for around two-and-a-half years.
The seized narcotic substance, described as opium poppy straw/brown crushed powder, weighed 38.935 kg and was valued at approximately Rs 38,93,500.
A case has been registered at Konkan Railway Police Station, Margao, under Section 8(c) read with Section 15(b) of the NDPS Act. Both accused have been arrested and further investigation is underway.
