Punjab has filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court that it plans to provide a “cheap variant of country liquor” as a “healthy substitute having 40-degree strength” so that people will not drink illicit and spurious home-made liquor!
We know of foreign liquor, Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and country liquor and now there would be State brewed liquor! It is a paradox as to how there could be a “cheap variant” of country liquor be a “healthy” drink?
Perhaps some other State may come up with tobacco products with less nicotine mixed with health beneficial ingredients like dry fruits and nuts.
This will be the first time that a State-brewed liquor could be made available for its citizens. It could be labelled as “Statesman!”
The Chief Minister of Bihar is adamant to continue prohibition despite opposition and people dying by drinking illicit liquor; while the CM of Punjab wants to provide cheap country liquor to his people. Hope this does not result in mass-migration of people from Bihar to Punjab!
