How police lapses are putting Goans at risk

The recent Baina dacoity in Vasco highlights major lapses in police vigilance and surveillance, putting public safety at risk. It is no surprise that many people view the police force in Goa as a corrupt system with serious failures.

Even after a month, the Goa Police have still not arrested the mastermind behind the Mapusa dacoity. Such crimes are becoming worryingly common in the state. The police have been unable to prevent robberies and dacoities, and it is clear that lessons were not learnt from the earlier incident in Dona Paula. Stronger surveillance and better monitoring by law enforcement can act as a powerful deterrent against such criminal acts. Public trust in the police remains very low. However, it is the personal responsibility of every Goa Police officer to ensure that all Goans feel safe.

The police must draw up special action plans and run awareness campaigns in key areas linked to public safety. The aim should be to ensure that criminals fear the law, and citizens feel protected. The government and the police force must work together to build a safer and more secure Goa. Only through collective effort can the rising crime rate be addressed quickly and effectively.
