India yesterday succeeded in placing a solar space observatory at a vantage point @1.5 million kms from the Earth to study the Sun.
The observatory christened Aditya L1 was the fruit of 8 years of labour of the project director Nigar Shaji and her team consisting largely of women.
The director, herself a woman rose from humble origins who by sheer dint of will and perseverance managed to obtain an engineering degree in electronics and communications from Madurai Kamraj University, later she completed her Masters from BITS Mesra.
Thereafter she joined ISRO as a junior scientist and rose through the ranks to be appointed project head for India's first solar mission in 2016.
Significant participation of female scientists in ISRO missions bodes well for women empowerment in India, a land which worships Durga, Parvati, Saraswati and other female deities in a million different forms. Kudos once again to Shaji and her team, you have done the nation proud.
