While Goa calls for tourists from around the world, a pertinent question arises: Are our Goan beaches safe for tourists? Open defecation is taking place on the golden sands of Goa. The hired laborers, brought to Goa by the owners of fishing boats, do not have access to toilets to relieve themselves.
The actions of numerous labourers from different states who work for our traditional fishermen tarnish Goa’s image as they defecate openly and wash themselves in public. Tourists come to enjoy the beaches and spend quality time with their loved ones, and witnessing such scenes in Goa could deter them from visiting the state.
Owners should provide adequate toilet facilities to ensure the safety and cleanliness of our Goan beaches. Additionally, it has been observed that even rental rooms and construction sites do not have toilets for their workers. Consequently, workers resort to open fields and other public areas to relieve themselves, making the entire area unclean and unpleasant.
We earnestly request our Tourism Minister and Chief Minister, Sawant, to address this situation promptly before it worsens and negatively affects our tourism industry.
