Panchayats all over Goa are uniting against mega projects and development which are going on at a frantic pace causing irreversible damage and straining the village resources causing mega problems for the local residents. Assagao once known for its lush hills and greenery is now facing rapid deforestation and hill cutting with their reclassification into settlement zones. In Moira there is pushback against big housing complexes. A project is reportedly being developed which includes 84 flats, swimming pool and 46 shops. Such large scale commercial development in the village and projects which concretises and pollutes the beautiful environment is most unwelcome. Carambolim wants nod for commercial structure cancelled, Bardez panchayats Colvale, Revora, Nachinola pass resolutions opposing 25 metre road widening under RP 2021 and so on all over Goa. The carrying capacity of the place, cutting hills, trees and life giving flora and fauna, the enormous pressure on infrastructure, encroaching on fertile lands and fields, turning a beautiful land into a concrete jungle for the rich and powerful by central authorities overruling local concerns in a democracy cannot be in national interest and is detrimental to vibrant Goa.
