Plaudits to Commissioner CCP Madeira who took prompt action by requesting PWD action in this matter by either replacing of modifying the chambers at Dayanand Bandodkar Road. These chambers I had inspected much earlier. My opinion as an old Panjimite was that this particular drain although was done by predecessors before the Liberation, no proper maintenance was done after that by earlier municipality or present CCP. The whole drain was totally blocked and no water could pass into Mandovi river through this drain. The reason was due to public dumping bottles, mud, coconut leaves and stone bricks, etc into these broken chambers.
I suggested that these cover plates which has bigger holes could be modified or better designed by PWD so that there is no chance for the public to dump unnecessary waste materials.
I am happy that the present Commissioner CCP understood the situation and requested the PWD to look into the matter. Hope this is done on priority before the monsoon and the drain is completely clean as it connects another drain at the circle.
