Need to tackle the scourge of garbage


Disposing of garbage whether in a small State like Goa or a large metropolis like Mumbai seems to be an insurmountable task for authorities. With the pressure of population, lack of civic sense among citizens, insufficient sanitation staff and general administrative apathy everywhere it seems soon our cities will be reduced to mere islands in oceans of trash. 

Uncollected, unsegregated garbage also attracts rodents, strays and pests which further leads to disease putting additional burden on our bursting at the seams health infrastructure. 

A serious thought needs to be given to tackle the situation lest our country turns into a giant eyesore soon.
