Ponda Municipal Council isn’t doing much on stray cattle front

No doubt, bad condition of roads has been resulting in mishaps from time to time. Equally true is that stray cattle squatting and also proceeding along the road is also a major reason for the increasing number of accidents on Goan roads. In Ponda, the situation has been degrading day by day. The Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) as a competitive authority has not succeeded in assuring relief to public at large and the bovines continue to cause hardships to one and all. The situation worsens during the night and scenes of cattle squatting on the road at different spots turn the situation from bad to worse. Cattle have been regularly proceeding along the main road at Ravi Nagar besides the residence of local MLA Ravi Naik. However, it is known whether he has issued any instructions to the Ponda Municipal Council for initiating necessary favourable steps to restrict this growing menace at this jurisdiction. Cattle also occupy the pavement and adjacent to shops near old bus stand as also near Dadaji Mansion building in the vicinity of Saraswat Bank. The menace is also noticed on the road near Shree Maruti temple at Varkhandem and also near the High Mast at Tisk. Overall, travellers and pedestrians face great inconvenience and trouble in the process. The senior officials at the Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) should take a serious view of above sensitive matter which has been growing by leaps and bounds during recent times. Setting up of cattle pounds and impounding stray cattle should be dealt with on top priority. Precious human lives cannot be taken for granted at any instance, but must be assured the much--needed safety on permanent basis. Let us hope that the PMC as a competent authority would initiate immediate positive steps to restrict this menace and assure relief for travellers and pedestrians alike.
