Benaulim's incumbent MLA Churchill Alemao Bab has made a valid point before the union minister for tourism G Kishan Reddy.
Hefty fee levied on the public restroom facility at our world-class and iconic Colva Beach will discourage penny pinching tourists from using the state-of-the-arts restrooms.
This will, in turn, lead to a situation where tourists are seen relieving themselves in secluded areas or behind the bushes.
This habit will create plentiful problems with respect to not only hygiene but also dignity of self-respecting inhabitants residing nearby the beach.
The authorities must realise that the public restroom facility is not to be considered as a revenue generator for the coffers.
On the contrary, the public restroom facility must collect the bare minimum charges that are enough to meet the basic maintenance cost.
