The unpopular and unethical decision of the BJP government in Goa to encourage and accept the defections of eight Congress party MLAs and join BJP, is now paying its dividends.
Some of these eight MLAs who once were like lions and roaring both inside the Goa Assembly and outside whenever any contentious issue specially affecting the common men or was detrimental to Goa’s interest and development was being debated, were suspiciously not speaking out.
It’s becoming amply clear now why the BJP wanted additional MLAs on its side when it already had comfortable majority in the House. As a result, some of the powerful voices from the opposition have been silenced or rendered into mild voices.
During the discussion on Mhadei issue, only six to seven MLAs from the opposition side were seen to participate actively and vociferously in the discussion while many ruling party MLAs were just passive listeners or made non-controversial or inoffensive speeches without much substance or impact.
I just wonder how these people’s representatives who were elected to voice voters sentiments on all important issues affecting their lives could pretend and sit tight believing that nothing is at stake and just take solace on the famous statement made very often by the Chief Minister “Biopachi goroz na”.
