Address problems of speeding, drunk driving to stop crashes

Three youngsters lost their lives, while two others were critically injured in a tragic accident when the one who was driving the compact SUV in which they were travelling lost control and rammed the vehicle into a roadside tree near the TVS Showroom at Porvorim in the wee hours of Sunday.

Well, after seeing the mangled remains of the electric SUV, it looks like the young driver (who ultimately died on the spot) was driving the vehicle at a very high speed and due to which must have finally lost control. Well, this is exactly what happens when some parents blindly gift their children with high-speed vehicles of latest model at a very young age and send them on a suicide mission on our roads in Goa. They just don't realize that their children are still young, need a little more maturity and need years of experience to really start driving a big high-speed vehicle with a lot of confidence cum responsibility on our roads in Goa.

Well, today, though the whole world knows that another root cause for most road accidents is due to the free availability of alcohol every few metres in the state, no one seems to be still bothered in Goa. Why? That's because some feel that ours is a world famous tourist destination state and due to which we should casually allow some business-minded people to sell alcohol every few metres in the State. I therefore personally feel that until and unless we don't bother to address this particular nuisance creating problem first and do not pressurise the government of the day to come out with its own liquor policy on top priority basis, we Goans will keep witnessing many worse road accidents in the state and see many more youngsters simply losing their  lives in the days to come in Goa.

The horrific road accident, a self accident, which occurred at Porvorim that snuffed out three young lives only goes to prove that safety on the road is the responsibility of the one behind the steering wheel. There is no point in blaming the authorities, the government, the police and even the parents after a fatal accident. It will not bring the dead back to life. Each driver is mature enough to realize the consequences of over speeding and drunken driving. Speed thrills,…
