Driving is a privilege not right of the driver

The horrific road accident, a self accident, which occurred at Porvorim that snuffed out three young lives only goes to prove that safety on the road is the responsibility of the one behind the steering wheel. There is no point in blaming the authorities, the government, the police and even the parents after a fatal accident. It will not bring the dead back to life.

Each driver is mature enough to realize the consequences of over speeding and drunken driving. Speed thrills, speed kills. The air bags in high-end cars may not be able to save lives in such horrific accidents. The one behind the wheels is responsible for the safety of self, occupants of the car, other road users and pedestrians crossing the road. Start early, drive slowly and reach the destination safely should be the mantra to be followed. Of course drunken driving is a risk no one should take. Traffic rules are there to assist us. Driving is a privilege and not a right. Until and unless we realize this fact, such accidents will keep on happening and more lives will be lost.
