This is with reference to the "Editorial - Focus on crimes against children - The Goan Everyday November 15, 2022". It was good to see Children's Day being celebrated with much enthusiasm across the country. The focus was on children all the way, with various programmes in schools and elsewhere to mark Children's Day. It is often been repeated that children are the future of the country and of the whole world. Against this background, your editorial, focusing on the issues and challenges faced by children today, was apt. You have rightly mentioned that in the midst of all this rejoicing and exchange of flowers & gifts there's no thought or effort to address the painful side of the child's story. We need to direct our attention to the issue of child abuse for instance, malnutrition, no access to education, etc. Attention must also be given to the issue of population control especially among the labour class where one would find they have more mouths to feed than they can manage. The result is, the children are left to grow on they own and led astray.
The children are the future of our country, no doubt, but unfortunately, when they grow up many of them leave our shores in search of greener pastures in the western world. Can we arrest this trend?
