In early 2016, a stranger discovered a body of a woman in a trolley bag in Margao’s Moti Dongor area. This particular case was handled by Margao PI C L Patil, who charge sheeted the woman’s husband. The case collapsed due to the failure of the investigating officer in writing a detailed panchanama of the crime site. The accused husband was acquitted by the High Court of Bombay at Goa. Once again the same officer is assigned to head the daylight daring murder of Margao jeweller Swapnil Walke to the utter ignorance of Goa police DGP Mukesh Kumar Meena. This proves Goa police does not keep records of unfit officers. The DGP rightly decided to hand over the case to the Crime Branch, but he erred in assigning C L Patil to head the investigation. I am not aware whether he knows the PI’s past record. It is never too late for the DGP to rectify his fault and form a team of police officers with good track record to head the Walke murder probe.
