A couple of months ago , Pope Francis, speaking off the cuff said that 'lenghty homilies are a disaster' and hence should be limited to 10 minutes. He encouraged priests to keep homilies 8 to 10 minutes and include in it a thought, feeling and image so that people take home something with them.
During the oppressive summer months of April, May and June the observation of the Holy Father becomes even more relevant. Long homilies however well prepared and spiritually uplifting, are lost in perspiration! Personally, I am of the opinion , that a short well prepared homily , with something to take home, is sufficient, at least in the summer months.
