The amount of unaccounted money in hard cash unearthed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) during the past few weeks from various sources and residences and offices of some politicians, is simply mind-boggling---enough to cause the breakdown of counting machines. While this is just the tip of the iceberg, it is not known how much more of this stuff lies hidden in false ceilings, underground vaults, hidden cupboards and artificial walls. Nevertheless, it all points to the Central govt's failed attempts to flush out black money in the country though the earlier demonetisation drive of November 8, 2016. It is also no secret that politicians get richer year after year, and how most of them become crore pattis in a short period of time. The pity of it all is that the alleged Rs 35 lakh crore of black money stashed away in foreign tax havens, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised to bring back still, remains a pipe dream, as much as his promises of benefiting the people of the country with Rs 15 lakh in their accounts.
