The big superpower nation, the United Statesof America, uses the ballot system to hold its general elections. Citizensstand in unending serpentine queues to cast their paper ballots. Also, thecounting of these ballots is done manually, whatever the time it takes. Thepoint I am trying to make here is why India, which is one of the biggestdemocracies, cannot revert to the ballot paper system to hold its generalelections given the fact EVMs are subject to rigging. Are the electionauthorities ensuring that elections are without any foul play -- both votingand counting. The call by opposition parties to bring the ballot paper systemback in the last general elections fell on deaf ears. If a big nation like theUS can have elections through the ballots, why can't India? The opposition andlike-minded parties should yet again rake up the subject and impress upon theECI to bring back the ballot paper system for free and fair elections.
