Recently, a group under the banner of South Goa Lok Sabha Polity made a fervent plea to ban Electronic Voting Machines to ensure fair and just election process in the interest of the nation.
They submitted a memorandum to the South Goa district authorities on behalf of concerned voters of Goa and said it is necessary to impose ban on EVM to ensure elections are held in a fair and transparent manner, insisting that voting by ballot paper is necessary to save the democracy.
It is reported that that Indian EVMs are banned even in the technologically advanced countries.
Free and fair elections are next to impossible and can be held only by 100 per cent tally of the VVPATs.
The dates for the ensuing Lok Sabha polls are still not announced. It would be prudent if the Election Commission takes a call and introduces ballot papers so that free and fair elections can be conducted throughout the country.
By doing so, the faith of the Indian citizens in democracy can be restored. Let better sense prevail.
