The ongoing western bypass works in Benaulim has laid waste acres of once fertile farmland and turned the whole area into a dustbowl. The work is behind schedule and red earth is spread across everywhere which would soon turn into rivers of mud once the monsoon sets in.
Forget about building this section of the bypass on stilts as demanded by the locals, whatever is being executed at site today is being done in a very thoughtless and haphazard manner. Underground services are being laid by the electricity department even as concrete culverts are being cast by the contractor sans any co-ordination.
Also the road engineering of the junction of the new stretch with the Calvaddo bypass leaves a lot to be desired, it will worsen the situation in an already accident prone area.
The citizens are not going to benefit from all this 'progress' but in fact we will see more flooding and accidents in this stretch.
